Our Presence at Machine Building North 2025
Industry exhibitions represent an important opportunity to meet OEM customers and so we were delighted to be able to participate in Machine Building North on 10 April at the Concorde Centre, Manchester with both live and static displays. For us here at AP Technologies, exhibiting is not just about demonstrating just our product range; we like to meet people and show our collaborative approach to finding the right solutions to customer challenges.
Bridging Technology and Application
Successful implementation of optoelectronic components into systems is about more than just specifications. It demands a thorough understanding of application contexts, performance requirements and new product development processes.
We were able to meet with both existing and new customers at Machine Building North and looking forward to discussing the real challenges and needs faced in sensing, light source and light control applications.
Live Demonstrations: Technology in Action
Our demonstrations showcased sensing technologies applicable across diverse industrial, environmental sensing and biomedical environments:
- Broadcom Time-of-Flight Sensors: ToF sensing offers compact, accurate and low cost sensing in light conditions from bright ambient light to complete darkness. These components deliver mm-level accuracy over operational ranges from 1.5cm-100m. With TÜV Class 1 eye-safe certification and ruggedisation allowing performance from 20°C to +70°C, they suit a wide range of operational environments. Typically they are used for controlling autonomous guided and autonomous robotic vehicles, robotic arm control, drone navigation, inventory management and logistics applications.
- OtO Photonics spectrometers stand out for three reasons: (i) Their small form factor based on innovative engineering with a Czerny-Turner design foundation, (iii) for portable field or shop floor spectrometers, they have a higher level of accuracy than competitor products, (iii) the willingness of the manufacturer to offer customisable gratings and slit widths to meet customers’ requirements.
-
- SilverBullet is an ultra-compact device at (40 x 36.3 x 25.1 mm, ~36 cm³), making it ideal for handheld devices and covering 180–1100nm wavelengths, with a fast CMOS sensor, rigid optical bench, and customisable gratings. Ideal for OEM and handheld devices, it enables rapid, precise spectral measurements for applications such as water quality and colour analysis, with easy integration using SpectraSmart software allowing users to develop application-specific control.
- SmartEngine is a larger device (110 x 86 x 35.4 mm) and delivers exceptional performance across the 180-1100nm range, offering high optical resolution, sensitivity, low stray light, and fast spectral response and is ideal for benchtop or industrial applications.
Static displays – a comprehensive range of technologies
Our static displays represented the breadth of our product portfolio and will feature:
- PKG Spectral Measurement Kit: A "spectral measurement system in a box" built on a rigid platform that supports a selection of light sources, spectrometers, a cuvette holder, and accessories.
- Diverse light sources: From ultraviolet C (UVC) to near infrared NIR LEDs, we’ll be showing both components and benchtop fibre-coupled LED light source instruments.
- Detection Technologies: We understand that sensing applications demand different sensitivity thresholds. Our silicon photodiodes, photodiode-preamplifiers, and silicon photomultipliers demonstrate our capability to support low-light detection challenges.
- Learn about the capabilities of our mid-infrared (MIR) detectors and pulsable thermal infrared emitters for various sensing applications.
- Liquid crystal shutters and polarisation modulators: See our liquid crystal components, including fast optical shutters and polarisation modulators, enhancing optical system performance.
Supporting the Development Journey
At AP Technologies we believe we stand out for our commitment to supporting the complete product development cycle. While larger suppliers might hesitate at small initial orders with uncertain scaling potential. We embrace opportunities for low volume orders for new product development. We recognise that tomorrow's high-volume applications begin as today's experimental prototypes.
We look forward to discussing your specific application challenges at Machine Building North. Whether you're conceptualising a new system or refining an existing design, we're equipped to provide both technical expertise and flexible supply options that align with your development timeline.
