OtO Photonics' COS-1 and COS-2 cosine correctors are designed for optical measurements in combination with their full range of spectrometers and light sources operating from 200nm to 2500nm.
The principle of Cosine Correction is derived from Lambert’s Cosine Law which defined how the intensity of light illuminating a surface is reduced as the source moves away from 90° incidence.
Whilst the Cosine Law is a complex mathematical model, the design of a Cosine Corrector is intended to replicate the calculation by collecting and diffusing the light from a wide angle so that the light meter, or calibrated spectrometer, can accurately reflect the total incident light.
OtO Photonics' Cosine Correctors are therefore diffusers which couple light either directly into the spectrometer's SMA input, or an optical fibre with SMA connector.
It is important to state that where a spectrometer is supplied with a traceable radiometric calibration the diffuser should under no circumstances be removed since this will invalidate the calibration.
| Model | Diffuser Diameter (mm) |
Field of View |
Wavelength Range |
| COS-1 | Ø 4.1 | ±82° | 200 - 2500nm |
| COS-2 | Ø 5.75 | ±85° | 200 - 2500nm |
The COS-1 and COS-2 cosine correctors can be used in conjunction with other components from OtO Photonics' range of accessories:-
