QD Laser, Inc. has unveiled its latest innovation, the Lantana series, a groundbreaking addition to the field of compact visible lasers. This new product line is designed to meet the growing demands for miniaturisation and enhanced design flexibility in biomedical equipment.
Based on QD Laser’s award-winning QLD0593 series, these modules combine their Quantum Well DFB/SOA technology with Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) utilising waveguide PPLN (Periodically-Poled LiNbO3) to produce outputs at 532nm, 561nm and 594nm.
Key Features and Benefits of Lantana
- Miniaturised Design: The Lantana series boasts ultra-compact dimensions of 38 x 62 x 22.5 mm³ (53cc) and weighs in at just 90 g, making it one of the smallest and lightest in its class. This compact form factor is ideal for integration into various biomedical devices, contributing to their overall miniaturisation.
- Versatile Wavelengths: Initially released at 532 nm, 561 nm, and 594 nm. Additional wavelengths of 488 nm, 552 nm and 588nm are already in development.
- Excellent Beam Quality: All Lantana units feature single-frequency output of with an M² of 1.2 (typical) and beam dimensions of 0.5 x 1.1 mm at the 1/e² point with <2.5mrad divergence.
- High Output Power: Lantana offers multiple output power options of 5, 20, 30, and 50 mW in continuous wave (CW) mode, allowing users to select the appropriate power level for their specific application needs.
- Excellent Power Stability: Output power stability of < 2% ensures the consistent performance which is crucial for applications in biomedical equipment.
- Integrated Driver: Each Lantana unit is a plug-and-play module that integrates a compact visible laser with a driver in a single, ultra-compact housing. This integration simplifies the setup process and enhances the ease of use for system-integrators and end-users.
- USB Communication: The Lantana lasers feature USB communication. This modern interface ensures seamless integration with existing systems and facilitates straightforward operation.
- Multiple Drive Modes: In addition to CW operation under Automatic Power Control (APC) all Lantana models can be directly modulated from 0.1kHz to 50 kHz under Automatic Current Control (ACC) via the USB connection.
Applications
The Lantana series is particularly suited for biomedical applications, where precision and reliability are paramount. Its compact size and high performance make it an excellent choice for:
- Flow Cytometry: Enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of cell analysis.
- Cell Sorting: Improving the sorting process with precise laser targeting.
- Laser Microscopy: Providing high-resolution imaging for detailed biological studies.
- Raman Spectroscopy: Enabling advanced molecular analysis with high sensitivity.
