Time-of-flight (ToF) sensor technology is ideal for distance and motion measurement scenarios that require a high dynamic range, high speed, high accuracy, and do not need to be aimed at a particular surface material. For applications with these requirements, system integrators and sensor users must carefully verify the their needs and the specification of a potential sensor. To assist in this process, Broadcom have produced an application note that provides basic information about ToF technology, enables a general understanding of the measurement principles, and introduces the product variety of the AFBR-S50 sensor platform.
Broadcom's Time-of-Flight basics application note provides an explanation of the principals behind time-of-flight, methods for calculating signal range and amplitude, information on the field-of-view, detection algorithms, and eye safety, with an FAQs section as well.
