OtO Photonics' RedSparrow-Series is their latest MEMS grating-collimator microspectrometers - bringing the size, performance and cost benefits of their UltraMicro-Series technology to the near infrared band.
RedSparrow is incredibly compact at just 40 x 40 x 18mm³ (<30cm³), including the removable external control board, and yet the rigid metal package and optical bench provide excellent thermal, humidity and shock/vibration stability performance.
RS1680 uses the Hamamatsu G13913 128-pixel NIR InGaAs sensor for operation from 950nm to 1700nm (NIRA) or 900-1650nm (NIRB) with a FWHM Resolution of 9-15nm with a 50µm slit. There are also plans to add other models to the RedSparrow range with higher pixel counts and improved resolution.
OtO's MEMS-based microspectrometers replace the "collimator-plane grating-focusing mirror" optical structure used in traditional Czerny-Turner spectrometers with a "non-spherical, mass-producible" micro-sized component which combines grating and focusing functions. The microchip concave grating technology leverages patented algorithms to calculate curvature and ray-tracing to eliminate aberrations.
The optical input is via an industry-standard SMA-905 multimode fibre connector whilst the externally mounted control board incorporates a 16 bit, 15MHz A/D converter with electrical interface via an external control board featuring a high speed (480Mbps) Micro USB 2.0 connector or 8-pin extension port.
OtO's SpectraSmart spectral management software is supplied with RedSparrow and includes a Windows Software Development Kit. Example code for control via Linux is also available upon request.
