QD Laser have introduced a compact fibre-coupled laser module which combines four wavelengths of laser diode into a single fibre output.
The new QLMF02 4-colour module is a just 80mm x 80mm x 30mm and incorporates a thermoelectric cooler for precise temperature control and stabilisation along with a choice of singlemode or polarisation maintaining fibre and an FC/PC or FC/APC connector.
A choice of one of QDL's award-winning QDL0593-series frequency-doubled 532nm, 561nm or 594nm lasers is available. These lasers combine narrow linewidth near infrared DFB/SOA lasers with waveguide Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate (PPLN) frequency doubling to provide narrow linewidth and excellent stability.
Up to three further wavelengths of Fabry-Perot laser diodes can be specified in the range 405nm to 905nm.
A typical application for the 4-wavelength multiplexed module is flow cytometry. A frequently used combination of wavelengths for flow cytometry is 405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 640nm and these are offered in the standard QLM4F02-40485664-1S which features a singlemode pigtail.
Other applications include Ophthalmology/SLO devices combining RGB and NIR lasers - for example the QLM4F02-48536678-1P (488nm, 532nm, 660nm and 785nm) with PM fibre output.
QD Laser have also developed a control board for the 4-colour module. The QBB4M01 driver optimises the DFB and SOA current of the 532/561/594nm laser along with the FP operating currents and TEC. Control of the lasers' power, CW or direct modulation and temperature is via USB and the driver board requires a single 12V supply.
Product Availability
Two standard configurations are offered at launch. The QLM4F02-40485664-1S features singlemode fibre and lasers at 405nm, 488nm, 561nm and 640nm and is ideal for many flow cytometry applications. The QLM4F02-48536678-1S operates at 488nm, 532nm 660nm and 784nm with a polarisation maintaining fibre output and is well-suited to ophthalmology applications and SLO devices. However, the product platform offers a very high degree of customisation and other wavelength combinations are welcomed.

About QD Laser
QD Laser, Inc., launched in 2006 as a pioneer of the quantum dot laser technology, is now a leading provider of novel semiconductor laser solutions for Telecom/Datacom, optical interconnect, consumer electronics, industrial use and medical equipment.
QD Laser, Inc., has succeeded in the world first mass production of temperature-insensitive quantum dot lasers with the accumulated shipment of more than 2.5 million units. The company also invented a series of such original products as short-pulse DFB lasers for micromachining, the world’s first current injection diode lasers of green, yellow green and orange in the ‘Green Gap’, quantum-dot laser arrays for silicon optical circuits, broadband gain chips for OCT (optical coherence tomography) and retinal imaging laser eyewear.
The importance of laser technology is increasingly growing to connect people and things with cyberspace at anytime and anyplace in this “Hyper Connected World”. In the area of high-capacity information processing, the quantum dot lasers with low noise and temperature robustness are to work as standard light sources of optical interconnect between LSI chips. As wearable devices, retinal imaging laser eyewear is expected to spread worldwide from low vision aids, workplace support to smart glasses with superior characteristics of focus free and universal design.
QD Laser, Inc. continues to grow as the state-of-the-art semiconductor laser company to create new market. We strongly hope to contribute to the development of customer business by providing our original and highly reliable products.
