HummingBird 200pxOtO Photonics' HummingBird (HB) series are crossed-cavity Czerny-Turner spectrometers offering the performance benefits of classic C-T cavity designs in a significantly more compact package.

 

HummingBird is incredibly compact at just 83 x 75.5 x 26.75mm³ (<168cm³) and yet the optical bench provides excellent rigidity, ensuring a platform with industry-leading thermal, humidity, shock and vibration stability.

 

Despite its compact form-factor HummingBird sacrifices none of the performance of OtO's highest selling SmartEngine spectrometers and offers high optical resolution, high sensitivity, low stray light, and fast response.

 

Hummingbird is initially offered with a choice of two high performance 2048-pixel sensors from Hamamatsu:-

 

S11638: Fast-exposure CMOS with Dynamic Range of 1600:1 and an SNR of 330

S11510: Back-thinned NIR-enhanced CCD with 5000:1 Dynamic Range and an SNR of 500

 

It is expected that the range will increase with additional sensors becoming available.

 

OtO have designed HummingBird to take advantage of the wide range of slit and grating choices developed for their SmartEngine spectrometers enabling optimisation of spectral bandwidth, resolution and sensitivity. OtO's 6 standard gratings are:-

 

FUVN: 300g/mm blazed at 300nm. 920nm bandwidth for full 180-1100nm

DUVN: 500g/mm blazed at 300nm, 825nm factory-set bandwidth within 180-1100nm

VNIR: 600g/mm blazed at 500nm, 670nm factory-set bandwidth within 180-1100nm

FUV: 600g/mm blazed at 300nm, 670nm factory-set bandwidth within 180-1100nm

NIR1: 1200g/mm blazed at 850nm, factory-set bandwidth of 220nm within 180-1010nm

NIR4: 1000g/mm blazed at 900nm, factory-set bandwidth of 300nm within 180-1100nm

 

These gratings are identified in the table below and you will also find non-standard options. For each grating we show the achievable Resolution over the stated Spectral Bandwidth - thus enabling the combination of Grating and Slit to be identified. When contacting APT please advise the desired wavelength operating range, for example the standard NIR1 grating has a 220nm bandwidth which can be factory set within a 180nm to 1010nm range.

Communication with HB-Series spectrometers is via high speed (480Mbps) USB2.0 or 6 user-programmable digital I/Os.
